2015 Nervi Gattinara Nebbiolo

I had the pleasure of visiting Mavericks Brasserie in San Antonio. One of Wine Spectator‘s 2019 Top 100 Restaurants in the US. The food, the wine, and the service were well worth the visit! The Green Chile Mac & Cheese was some of the best my friends and I had ever had and was our all around favorite the night!

This is the first vintage that Nervi Nebbiolo was made by Barolo superstar Roberto Conterno of Giacomo Conterno.

The wine I had was straight from a Coravin and could have used some more air. I ordered it at the beginning of the meal, so I should have made them pour it right then and there to have given it 45 minutes to an hour before drinking. #lessonlearned

Even with very little airing it was beautiful. It was perfectly balanced. Although, I could see how this wine would be much better with decanting and age.

👃 cherry, plum, leather, vanilla

🍷 full bodied with lots of tannin and incredibly smooth and balanced finished

📝 Notes – given this is the first year with Roberto Conterno, I cant wait to try 2016 and beyond!
