French Wine: 2013 Petite Ruche Crozes-Hermitage M. Chapoutier

On a recent trip to Burgundy I stopped in the village of Macon, and along the Saône river, I had a lovely dinner of lamb and ordered this wine.  La Petite Ruche means “little beehive”, which is cute because the young vines that this wine comes from used to be used for bee keeping.

🍇 Syrah
🥴 13% APV
📆 Hand harvested.  The wine is vinified in cement vats with 2 daily treadings. Fermentation lasts from 10 to 12 days.  It is then aged in vats for about a year
📍 Crozes-Hermitage AOC, which is in the Northern Rhone wine region, France
🏵️ 87pts Wine Spectator
👀 Deep Ruby
👃 Black Fruits
🍷 Medium body, Soft tannin, nice finish, very balanced wine
⏳ Tis already has a bit of age, I would drink it now until 2023
💰 $35
📝 It was a nice and enjoyable wine, and the restaurant allowed me to buy a bottle to take home, but I don’t think it is anything to really rave about.
