I had the pleasure of visiting Antoine Rodet, located in the town of Mercury in Burgundy. Antonine Rodet first purchased vineyards in 1887 just as phylloxera was wiping out all of the vines in Burgundy. It took years but, the label and the family managed to survive and today are now pouring amazing wines!
The most unique aspect of this tasting and something I had never done before was a water tasting! They had a table that had 6 different types of water that reflected the different terroirs of the region to help the drinker understand just how much terroir impacts the flavor of the wine. It was one of the coolest #corkdork experiences I have had!
My favorite to drink now wine was the Chateau De Rully Rully Premier Cru “Molesme”. 100% Pinot Noir the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged of 13 months in oak barrels (both new and 1-3 years old). It was an incredibly easy drinking Pinot Noir with low tanning and medium acidity with a taste of red fruits and the forest floor. The only thing negative I have to say is compared to others of similar quality I tasted the prices was a big high.
