I first discovered Williams Selyem in November of 2015, when they were still pouring wines still made by Bob Cabral, the Sonoma County Pinot Noir master (who left WS in 2015 to go to one of my all time favorite wineries – Three Sticks). Williams Selyem along with Bob really made a huge splash on the world stage when in 2010 Wine Enthusiast Magazine gave William Selyem’s 2007 Litton Estate Pinot Noir a perfect 100 point score!!! This was the first a North American Pinot Noir had received a perfect score. Needless to say, William Selyem Pinot Noirs are absolutely delicious, and even though Bob has since left the wines still continue to be delicious, although without knowing he had left I was able to tell a difference. I am still happily on their allocation list and enjoying all of the gorgeous Pinots though!
Williams Selyem is an allocation based club and tastings and visiting the beautiful facility requires that you been an active list member and that you make an appointment. The tours are private and very personalized to you and your guests. This private attention makes for a wonderful experience, and even though the setting and the facility of state of the art and stunning it is also warm and inviting. It is the right amount of pomp without being unapproachable or snooty. I’ve been tasting three times and every time it has been a fun and enjoyable experience.
