In order to experience local wine in a wine region you do not have to go to a winery or a tasting room, often you can find the most local wines at the local bars and restaurants.  Especially if you go out of your way to eat in an area of the town or village more frequented by locals and less by tourists.  It was eating at a local Italian restaurant while I was in Cyprus that I ended up on the wine road tasting local Cypriot wines and it was at an empanada tasting in Argentina that I was poured this gem of a red wine blend.  This wine was so local in fact, that my Google search(es) have not been able to pull up any other information on it or its wine maker than reviews on Vivino, and all but one of the reviews I found was in Spanish.  I’m always a little prouder of myself than I should be when I’m able to stumble on one of these wines.  I brag humbling to myself whenever I come across them.  It’s a cork dork’s dream to find something incredible and a bit unattainable.  I managed to buy a bottle to put in my wine suitcase for the journey home (shipping was not an option), and I wish that somehow I could find it again.  Alas, this is what I love about wine and also what breaks my heart about wine travel and wine tasting.  You find something awesome, and then, you can’t get it again unless you go back.
