Galle Wein – St. Laurent Trocken

Do you like Pinot Noir, but sometimes wish it was a just more manly?  Had a little bit more presence?  Or, do you sometimes want something like a Zin or a Syrah, but just feel like that is inviting someone to the party who is just a little too loud?  Where Pinot can sometimes be too light and Zin or Syrah too big, St. Laurent might be the grape that’s just right.

St. Laurent is a highly aromatic dark skinned grape that is shrouded in mystery.  It couldn’t have come from no where, but where it really comes from no one really knows.  Austria maybe?  My first experience with St. Laurent was from a German wine producer, Klaus Galle.

Klaus Galle is a family run German winery that was started in 1995, based in Rheinhessen which is Germany’s largest Wine region (you may of heard of this area as more of the “Rhine” or the “Rhine Valley”).  They produce local wines from local grape varietals.  Klaus Galle has won numerous awards for their Riesling, so if there is any chance you have heard of them, it is more than likely for their Riesling.
