Sitting like a new world building (I thought it looked like a space ship) among the vines with the Andes mountain range in the background is O. Fournier winery located in the Uco Valley in Mendoza in Argentina.  The Uco Valley is one of the three viticultures in Mendoza.  The other two are the Luján de Cuyon and the Maipú.  Located at the foot of the Andes mountains the valley is about 2,950 – 3,940 feet above sea level and is most famous for its Malbec grape.  Other varietals in the area include Barbera, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Temperanillo, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Syrah and Torrontés.

O. Fournier is mostly known for producing Malbec, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc.  It is also known for its restaurant, named Urban, which has a season six-course menu that pairs its courses with wines from the three different labels of O. Fournier; Urban, Bcrux, and Alfa Crux.  In December of 2016, I had the pleasure of visiting O. Fournier with my friend Kate.  Since we visited the winery has gotten new owners, but the beauty of the building and the reputation of Urban, still stands.  In fact, out of all the wineries that Kate and I visited, this winery has the most modern and grand facility, but that is not what impressed us or provided a lasting impression.  It was the Twice-cooked Ossobuco in its own sauce on Polenta Cream and Rosemary paired with the Alfa Crux 2011 Malbec.  This Malbec can be found in the US, UK and EU as well as in Argentina, of course!  I bought a couple of bottles and I have to say, it has aged amazing!
