Foodhallen Amsterdam

Do you ever go someplace and then you tell everyone who will listen about it?  The Foodhallen in Amsterdam is that kind of place for me.  I’ve had the pleasure of visiting it several times and every time I have an amazing experience and out of this world food.  I’ve been to food halls in several cities, London, Lisbon, Barcelona, Valencia, Copenhagen, Budapest the list goes on, but there is just something about this Food hall that makes it my favorite.  I never thought a food marked could beat out the Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid, but this one did!

The Foodhallen was originally started in 2014 and given that it beat what was my raining favorite food hall, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it was the inspiration of the creators of FoodHallen.  I think one of the elements that separates FoodHallen from other food halls for me, is that it feels so lively and social.  With its wide spaces (also unique to food halls in Europe) and plenty of places to sit and eat, it is easy to enjoy a long afternoon and lots of food and drink with friends.  In fact, on one visit my girlfriends and I spent 6 hours!

The Foodhallen has food from all over the world and this California girl will attest to it having the best tacos I’ve had outside of California – they are truly to die for. The beer, wine, and Gin and Tonic bar all make it a great spot for us booze hounds. You can enjoy so much from the 21 food stands such as, French cuisine, Tapas, Burgers, dessert, sushi, fresh pizza, Vietnamese and of course, the dutch classic Bitterballs created by no less than a Michelin starred chef!

If you are ever in Amsterdam this is well well worth a visit and when I’ve been it has felt more like a local than a tourist destination.  Also to note that there are cute shops, a movie theater, and plenty of bike parking in the area.
